Almost all sports require good balance. Static balance, the ability to remain balanced while not in motion, and dynamic balance, the ability to maintain balance while moving, are components of individual and team sports such as figure skating, cross country skiing, curling, badminton, wrestling and gymnastics.

  • Without shoes, the students stand comfortably on both feet and place their hands on their hips.
  • The student then lifts one leg and places the toes of that foot against the knee of the other leg with the knee of the raised leg pointing to the side.
  • On the instruction from the timer 'Close your eyes', the students close their eyes and the timer starts the stopwatch.
  • Students are required to balance on one foot while keeping their hands on their hips and the raised foot against the knee of the other leg.
  • The student balances for as long as possible without letting the raised foot move away from the knee or the hands come off the hips.
  • The timer records the time the student was able to maintain the balance position to the nearest 1 second.
